Multi-AHJ Coverage Across Greater LA

Our team regularly works across jurisdictions that each enforce NFPA 72 slightly differently in practice:

• City of Los Angeles (LAFD): Enforces the Regulation 4 program for monitored systems. Annual inspection permits required. DTLA high-rises, Koreatown mid-rises, Hollywood entertainment venues, and Westside medical offices all fall under LAFD jurisdiction.
• San Fernando Valley: The Valley spans four AHJs — LAFD covers most City of LA neighborhoods (Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Northridge, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Reseda, Sylmar); Burbank Fire Department covers Burbank; Glendale Fire Department covers Glendale; and San Fernando Fire serves the City of San Fernando.
• Torrance (TFD): Torrance Fire Department's Fire Prevention Bureau oversees Torrance's dense industrial, aerospace, and South Bay healthcare corridor. Industrial fire alarm systems here often include beam detectors, VESDA air-sampling units, and suppression interfaces requiring specialized expertise.
• Santa Monica (SMFD): Santa Monica Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division enforces NFPA 72 for the city's high concentration of high-rise offices, hotels, and mixed-use residential buildings along Wilshire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue, many with voice-evacuation and smoke-control systems.
